Building Your Website RIGHT is Important
A Guide on How to DIY Your Website
Being located in East Tennessee, specifically the Chattanooga area, we see a lot of beavers working in rivers and around ponds. Just got us thinking about the importance of building your website right from the beginning. This post talks about some key things to know before tackling your new website, especially if you are trying to build it yourself.
Be Focused
A major mistake people make with their first website is to try to build out a site with tons of different features like a client portal, e-commerce, and other more advanced features. Your first website should be very focused and clear. Make it easy for people to understand who you are, how they can do business with you, and how to contact you. Less is more, especially at the beginning.
Don’t Use Wix
We can’t stress this enough. Wix is the worst website platform you could possibly use. There are other great website builders like Weebly and Squarespace that allow you to migrate up to more advanced platforms in the future. Wix is just not it. It’s also not cheaper than Weebly or Squarespace. If you have used Wix already, it’s okay! Just start working to get off of it as soon as possible. We can help you if you’d like!
Know When To Work With Professionals
Unless you are a computer programmer or web services play a critical role in your business plan, you should leave website design and development to the professionals. Obviously that may not be an option when you first start out and that’s okay! Just know that starting down the path of finding friends and family to patch in functionality into the site you built is a recipe for disaster. Believe us, we’ve been doing this over 14 years now. So much lost potential revenue can be attributed to inexperienced work done on a business website. There’s a couple of different ways to work with professional web developers, either through a web design company or by hiring your own team of developers to work in-house. We have assisted our clients in both strategies. Reach out today and let’s talk about your website and how to get your business to the next level!
